The Lighthouse Land Conservancy, Inc. is an organization created to help our community realize & sustain its conservation goals. It is a non-profit organization, funded by a real estate transfer fee associated with lot and home sales. This means that each Peninsula owner is part of the Conservancy.
The Conservancy Team is made up of experts from a variety of environmental disciplines. They are the ones in the field counting deer & wild turkeys, looking for reptiles under rocks, mucking through wetlands for amphibians, and checking on the health of our hundreds of live oaks, palmettos and other native species. They give nature walks, bring in guest lecturers, and are an in-house information source for "green"/sustainable building & landscaping.
In short, the Conservancy is the keeper of the natural world at The Peninsula with a mission to protect the vast resources found from the Rice Dykes to the Estuary to Buck Swamp. As a team, they are committed to helping each of us understand our natural world, why it's important, and how to protect and preserve it for generations.
Most importantly, they are a resource for area students - our future conservationists; to answer questions and develop through experience, a respect and appreciation for the unspoiled beauty of the Georgia coastline.
